Pies-N-Thighs

For me, this is so far the best fried chicken in the city.  Lightly battered which pulls out easily with the most juicy chicken inside.

I ordered the fried chicken box. It comes with 3 pieces of fried chicken of your choice, a large homemade biscuit served with maple butter and a choice of side - mine was Collard green salad with tangy dressing, avocado, (cooked or is it pickled) onion, and roasted coconut.
To go, I bought a studded pecan yeast donut with maple:
And sour dough donut which is very different:
This certainly is my new place for the traditional fried chicken.  They also have chicken and waffles - will try that next time.

SWEET CHICKS for Fried Chicken and Waffles

Back here again! Feather light crisp waffles served with 3 butters and crispy brined fried chicken of your choice of parts.
The chicken with waffles is offered at the same price during the week with free drink.

Have their kale salad with their homemade bacon and kale.

And don't forget to try their homemade sticky bun that has caramelized or burnt cream on top.

Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken

I like the pickled greenbeans called dilly with spicy mayo dip. The chicken has spices.  And I have an arugula salad to stay healthy.
Finally open for business! Have tried a couple of weeks and decided to go today.

Now that I've eaten it, it's over hyped up.  I know a better fried chicken on 6th street and Avenue  C.

The chicken here has too much coating and I can't taste the chicken.  The only bottled sauce I liked was the Mustard Honey.  The Chipotle honey was medicine-like.

I was looking forward to this. And I never said anything bad of any restaurant ever yet.  I think I got so disappointed on this one.

ARROZ CALDO (Chicken-Rice Soup)

This is a flexible and useful dish to know how to make.
FILIPINO VERSION OF A CHINESE CONGEE
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congee

INGREDIENTS:
1lb of chicken wings (or half a chicken cut up into bite size pieces)
1/2 onion chopped 4 cloves of garlic minced
1 inch ginger thinly julienned
1/2 cup of chopped Jasmine rice (available in Asian Grocery stores) (but if not available, you can use regular rice)
6 cups of chicken stock 2 TB of fish sauce (or more for seasoning)
Fresh ground ppepper
12 sprigs of cilantro (a Mexican or Chinese parsley look-alike leaf condiment)
2 finely chopped scallions lemon wedges

Saute the onions and garlic till onions are translucent.  Add the ginger.
Add the chicken and fish sauce. Slightly sear the chicken parts on all sides.
Add the rice. Stir, then cover the pot to boil. Reduce heat, and simmer for about 30 minutes.
When cooked, spoon in bowl.  Garnish with cilantro and minced scallions. Season with extra ground pepper and a squeeze of lemon juice.

Nothing like a good soup!
*Also makes a good soup to serve when one feels dreary or recuperating from a cold
