TASTE OF FRANCE

Yes, it's Taste of France in NYC once again.  It's Sunday and in its 2nd day and I finally made it.  It seems a bit more organized than last year.  This is a much better venue.

They have several booths that deal beyond food but I am here for the food.
The lines are decent.  Price for food vary between 9 Marianne's or $9.
Above my turbot over artichokes is being dished out:
And is served with lobster sauce - with actual pieces of lobsters.  Really light and not overdone.
Above is the Steak Au Poivre.  That's the green peppercorn sauce the French usually have when they do their steak.  This meat is tender and juicy.  It's served with potatoes - first mashed then shaped and deep fried or oven roasted.
She demonstrated an apple tart that had a lightly crisped top of layers of thin dough sprinkled with sugar.  The layer of apples had a little Armagnac.
This was free from the baking demonstration.
With mini shows and cooking demonstrations, Taste of France won't be complete without the Theee Musketeers!

WILLIAMSBURG BROOKLYN

IBrooklyn Flea - Williamsburg
90 Kent Ave, New York, NY
From Manhattan, one can take the L train to Brooklyn. It is the first stop after the L train crosses the East River.
Above is one of the kiosks you would see to buy food from.
This taco place make their own taco shells.  They are also found at Pier 57 on 15th street in Manhattan during the week from lunch till 8-9PM.
Above are their homemade taco shells.
I did try the maple bacon stick from Landhaus. The flavor was good but not as tender as I would have wished it to be.
This place had hefty sandwiches. It was almost 5PM and we were on our way to dinner so I just took photos of it.

They are here and many others on weekends.  So it's another place for me and you to go out to try something new!

Before 8:30 PM, one could also commute to this place via a ferry boat to cross between Manhattan and Brooklyn. The dock is pleasantly located with a beautiful view if the Manhattan skyline by the modern condos on the water. If you want to watch the sunset, it's a wonderful place to watch it.

TASTE OF NEW YORK for Food Bank Event

I attended the big food event at Toshi Hotel at the Flatiron District for Taste of New York.  There were lines of people and about 15-20 restaurants participated in this event.

It was a good place to raise money for the food pantry and a way for restaurants to be recognized to promote themselves.

My favorite was Vic & Anthony's Steakhouse who served quail legs with spicy sauce over some salad. And my next favorite was the chicken meatballs from Dinner on Ludlow.

Roasted barbecued quail legs from Vic & Anthony

Quail legs are small so I went back about 3 times - they were spicy and very flavorful.  I like it so much, it inspired me to buy quails to cook for dinner that night.

Here's a video of how they served my favorite chicken meatballs from Dinner on Ludlow.  The spicy delectable meatballs was served in cups of minced or shredded Brussels sprouts and apples and scallion salad with tangy dressing.  It's a very good mixture.  The chicken meatballs had an Asian flavor twist to it.

Below, is Fox 5 Newscaster Ernie Ansastis emceeied the event.

The event started at 1PM till 5PM at the Toshi Hotel..  They served food in the bar restaurant area on the ground floor, the second floor, and the penthouse.

To the right, the presentation of food from Marco Polo Ristorante was the most attractive in this event.  Their craw fish stuffed dumpling or pasta was so delicious with pure craw fish flavor served with a decadent sauce.  I plan to go to their restaurant some day.  What I sampled was outstanding!

Pescatore surprised me with a panacotta with tomato sauce and pesto which made for an interesting amuse bouche or first course.  You definitely know you're eating a Southern Italian dish.

From Brother Jimmy's BBQ, they served us BBQ sliders
And at Benares, an Indian restaurant from TriBeCa, as shown above; they served us a delicious lamb stew served on top of basmati rice. And in cups, we had a yogurt based sampling of another Indian dish.

There was live music and more food to eat such as lobster rolls from The Sea Fire Grill in midtown and Roast Pork or Porchetta with sauce from IL Tesoro Ristorante - all for a good cause.

I suddenly got a call from my Customer and 'had to rush to an Open House.  I guess, it was about time anyway.  We were getting full and a few more munchies would have been harder to shed of the next day.
