Believe it or not, I've had this machine since 1989 and have had only minor repairs.  My conclusion is that the least expensive way to have a "barrista"-style espresso is to make it yourself with a good machine (Gaggia in this case) and Stumptown Coffee (Hair Bender) which I pick up a bag when needed.

And voila! A perfect cup of espresso coffee.

A good espresso maker makes terrific foam on top.  This was a double espresso.
